enerkii is slashing industrial energy bills while decarbonising one of Europe’s hardest-to-abate sectors.

The Munich-based company provides a full-service, emissions-free energy system for industrial and commercial players across Europe. By combining software intelligence with on-site renewable infrastructure, enerkii enables companies to cut their energy bills by up to 50%, with zero upfront investment. Through its unique “Energy-as-a-Service” model, enerkii is eliminating the complexity, risk, and cost of industrial decarbonisation.

Why we invested in enerkii

  • The climate case: Energy production accounts for ~75% of global CO₂ emissions, and industrial energy use remains one of the slowest sectors to decarbonise. Over 80% of industrial sites in Germany still rely on fossil fuels despite increasing renewable availability. enerkii directly addresses this by enabling affordable, zero-emission on-site energy generation. With 87 MW of contracted capacity already secured, enerkii is on track to reduce industrial emissions at scale - just as Germany and the EU accelerate towards 2030 renewable energy targets.
  • The business case: enerkii unlocks an enormous untapped market: the decarbonisation of Europe’s commercial and industrial sectors. While competitors focus on point solutions, enerkii offers a fully integrated system, including solar, battery storage, charging infrastructure, and (soon) heat pumps. These assets are backed by a proprietary Operating System (OS) that configures optimal setups in minutes. Their business model is elegant and compelling: no investment, no complexity, just savings. enerkii already has 18 contracts with major German industrial players, and is well-positioned for Europe-wide expansion.
  • The team: Co-founder and CEO David Balensiefen is a serial entrepreneur who previously co-founded gridX, which he successfully exited to E.ON. He is joined by gridX veterans Henry Thierhoff and Hendrik Abel, forming a team with deep technical knowledge, proven operational execution, and a bold vision for building Europe’s next major decentralised energy provider.
